During “Buy nothing new October, I found this at the op-shop. The burn test revealed it to very likely be rayon. It is soft and drapey, and fairly thin, all 3 1/2 m of it. And it is a stunning, intense blue. WOW! What a find?
In October I lost my most favouritest and belovedest hat in the entire world. Last known picture of it is this one of me walking on the reef in Darwin Harbour at low tide, recently. It was just sooooooo good. A decent-sized brim, the colours in the leafy tapestry went with everything, and it even doubled as camo when bowhunting. Not bad huh? It was a severe blow to lose it. In an op-shop of all places! I rushed back asap to look for it, but it was nowhere to be seen.
I can only conclude someone bought it. I can’t blame them, I am sure they too recognised its superlative qualities. I hope they get as many days and years of enjoyment out of life with the help of this hat as I had. It is so tough it will probably last another 10 or so year…
The pattern was Butterick 3664, I am pretty sure the view is D
I know I bought this fabric right in the middle of the “Buy Nothing New October”, but this was an essential purchase! And if anyone wants to argue with me that hats with suitably wide brims that goes nicely with everything, is soft and squishy to be able to shove into my handbag are not an essential, go stand outside in the Darwin sun around midday for 10 mins, then come back and we will talk ;-P
This is the new hat fabric. It may not be as effective a camo hat for bowhunting as the old one – that background is probably a bit bright. But other than that it should work just as well as the old one. I hope!
This is my “galah” polkadot cotton poplin. So called because it is pink and grey.
I am planning to make it into this patter from yourstylerocks.com
Another craft cotton. This is the red colourway of the same fabric design as my “Weaver’s Dress” I had my eye on the red ever since I bought the blue one for the Weaver’s Dress. In fact I almost bought it instead. So when I saw it on special I nabbed it!
I am planning to make this, and the fabric below into a tunic top inspired by the schoolhouse tunic, which I have also been eyeing off for ages. However, I will adapt one of my own patterns for this. Just a moment of stubborn determination to not buy yet another pattern 😀 (For now!)
